Michigan Bakery Named A Best Spot For Pie In America
With autumn in full bloom and Thanksgiving around the corner, one dessert item takes center stage: pie. TimeOut named the best bakeries for pie in America and a Michigan bakery was named.
“You don’t have to be in New York or L.A. (or Ronks, Pennsylvania, for that matter) to get your hands on the country’s favorite pies, either—most of these baked beauties can be shipped cross-country, just in time for friends and family to gather ’round this weekend,” TimeOut explained.
During the fall months, the most common pies are pumpkin and apple. They are both relative to the season and a staple on the Thanksgiving dessert table.
However, in Michigan, the best pie bakery in the state now has eight locations across the state.
Achatz Handmade Pie Co
Pot pies, soups, pies, cheesecakes, and baked goods can all be found at Achatz Handmade Pie Company. As its name suggests, this establishment sources its ingredients from local farms. As a result, everything they make is as fresh as possible.
In addition to the eight locations in Michigan, you can order Achatz’s products online and find them in select stores. Now, to talk a little more about their pies: there are 13 fruit pies available here. Favorites include the Michigan 4-Berry, Cherry Crumb, and Caramel Nut Apple. “Sweetened with just a touch of sugar, the delightfully tart filling allows the plump, locally-grown blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cherries to shine,” TimeOut states.
If fruit is not your thing in dessert, the cream pie options include lemon, pumpkin, banana cream and key lime.

Right at 1990 E. Avon in Rochester Hills, this place is open for business. They have cider, pastries, and fudge. They also have a petting farm with sheep, horses, and Lucy the Llama. This family-operated cider mill and restaurant serves up scratch-made meals year-round. You can enjoy lunch and dinner here, and when fall rolls around, they have cider and donuts too. Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill is open and waiting for you at 17985 Armada Center Rd. in Armada. They’ve got not one, but two spots to explore: Blake’s Orchard Funland and Blake’s Big Apple Funland. This 104-acre apple orchard and mill used to be called Erwin Orchards and Cider Mill. It opened a few weeks ago and has everything from doughnuts, cider, and U-pick apples to a petting zoo. They’ve got an open-air market, the Apple Shack, and the Franklin Tent where you can grab homemade jams, maple syrup, honey, salsas, meats, and cheeses. And they’re bringing back Cider Dogs, which are hot dogs soaked in cider. You can even watch them making the cider inside the mill. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a colorful entrance packed with fall flowers, mums, corn stalks, and, of course, the chance to pick your own pumpkins. Don’t miss the big red barn and cider mill – that’s where the hayrides start every 10 minutes. And if you’re up for a challenge, there’s a 7-acre corn maze for both kids and adults. Located at 4900 32 Mile Rd. in Washington Township, they’re gearing up to open in mid-September. It’s a fully operational farm with much more than apples and pumpkins. Alongside their cider, Millers has a Country Store stocked with pies, bread, jams, jellies, donuts, and more. They’ve also got a greenhouse filled with various plants.
