Girl Scout Cookies are back for another season with some surprises. During this time of the year, scouts flex their entrepreneurial muscles and acquire life skills like goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. All proceeds from cookie sales stay with local councils and troops to power Girl Scouts’ amazing experiences year-round. Regarding Girl Scout Cookies who can say no to a box?

The 2024 Cookie Line-Up

There is something so exciting about waiting an entire year for a much-anticipated event. And much like the McRib or a new DQ Blizzard Flavor. There has always been anticipation for Girl Scout Cookies season to arrive. Last year the Raspberry Rally will not be sold this year.

Biffer Eating His way to fame and history

Early in my radio career, in Decatur, Indiana WQTZ/WADM family owned by Michigan native Jeff Sommerville. Before WCSX‘s Screamin Scott the radio public was treated to a young radio personality whose nickname on the radio was, “Captian Biffer.” What a wonderful time it was and a great station and many memories and friends made of my 9-year stint there.

The Cookie Challenge

Entered for the station a Girl Scout Cookie eating contest locally. Two years in a row Screamin Scott aka Biffer walked away with the cookie-eating championship. First-year 23 Trefoil cookies in one minute. Only to break the National cookie eating record the next year with 29 cookies. Beating the old record by 2 cookies.

Now eating 29 was awesome but it does come with an incredible sugar buzz afterward. The record stood for a long-lasting 20-plus years.

How To Purchase Girl Scout Cookies This Year? 

If you know a registered Girl Scout, reach out to her to find out how she’s selling cookies. If you don’t know a Girl Scout, check with your local council or use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder to find a booth and purchase cookies. Look for scouts in front of local grocery stores or inside local malls.

This year’s crop of nominees for the Rock Hall Of Fame has been announced and continues to ruffle feathers every year. Sometimes ask why they continue to call it a “Rock Hall.” Some highlights and some make you SMH at what they are doing.

Foreigner nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

WCSX’s Big Jim’s House classic rock mornings show recently interviewed John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall honors and celebrates,” John Sykes said.  “Continuing in the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

Two-thirds of the artists on the list for “rock’s highest honor” are first-time nominees, and many are women.

Ten out of 15 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade.

According to the Hall of Fame, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of nomination to be considered.

1. a type of popular dance music originating in the 1950s, characterized by a heavy beat and simple melodies. Rock and roll was an amalgam of rhythm and blues and country music, usually based on a twelve-bar structure and an instrumentation of guitar, bass, and drums.

   The Hall Of Fame is trying to be diverse by a wide variety of artists this year. Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade.

The List Of Snubs 

Here are some of my personal rock and roll subs that I hope one day the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame will note the fans are waiting. Some are long over due.

• Why isn't Motörhead in the Hall of Fame?

  Why isn t Motörhead in the Hall of Fame?
  The band became eligible for enrolment in 2002, but despite being put forwards on several occasions have always failed to gain enough votes. In that time iconic frontman Lemmy has passed away, making this oversight doubly outrageous. The impact this band has had on rock music and bands influenced is unmistakable

  Motörhead has been eligible since 2000! Their place in the Rock Hall is long overdue! Plus you know, Lemmy is God.

• Why Isn't The MC5 In The Hall Of Fame?

   There aren’t too many artists who have been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame more than MC5.  Michigan’s own MC5 is tied with Chuck Willis for the second most nominations without earning induction at six. Their loud, energetic style of rock and roll included, garage rock, hard rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock. Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello described MC5 as having “basically invented punk rock.” Our boys should be in as a tribute to member Wayne Kramer who recently passed from cancer. 

  The MC5 is a true fan favorite! In genuine Motor City fashion, here’s the MC5 giving us what they do best.

• Why Isn't Grand Funk Railroad In the Hall Of Fame?

  Between 1969 and 1972 the power trio of Mark Farner, Mel Schacher and Don Brewer also known as Grand Funk Railroad, placed seven albums in the top ! Four of those reached the top 10! In 1971, they sold out London’s Royal Albert Hall without having a hit record in Britain and New York’s Shea Stadium in less than 72 hours, reportedly breaking the Beatles’ record. Though they were constantly degraded by the press, the Rolling Stone Album Guide rates their first two LPs  four stars each. Their fifth LP also gets four stars. The All-Music Guide added their third LP, “Closer To Home,” as a four-stars. Hall of Fame members currently in the hall can’t even come close to these milestones.

   

• Why Isnt Bad Company In the Hall Of Fame?

  Bad Company. During the “golden era” of rock, these guys had three albums chart on Billboard in the top five slots, in both the USA and UK! Also in my opinion,  Paul Rodgers is one of the best vocalists of all time! Founding Free and Bad Company front man Paul Rodgers is frequently listed among the artists most overlooked by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

• Why Isn't Iron Maiden In The Hall Of Fame?

  Iron Maiden has been eligible to be inducted since 2004. Lead singer Bruce Dickinson doesn’t have a nice opinion of the Rock Hall. Claiming that “Rock ‘n’ roll music does not belong in a mausoleum in Cleveland. It’s a living, breathing thing, and if you put it in a museum, then it’s dead. It’s worse than horrible, it’s vulgar.” Iron Maiden, who were included on the fan ballot in 2023, were not among the names announced last year induction list was revealed. It was revealed that the band had the fourth-highest total for the annual fan ballot, with 449,682 votes. So missed it by that much.

• Why Isn't Bachman Turner Overdrive In The Hall Of Fame?

  Bachman-Turner Overdrive hasn’t been nominated for the Rock Hall since becoming eligible in 1999. Founding member Randy Bachman has also been in the running since 1991 with his previous band, the Guess Who. In a 2012 radio interview, going so far as to wonder if it was because they’re Canadian. “It really pisses me off every year,” he said. Bachman-Turner Overdrive during the peak years, when we were selling 30, 40 million records – to not get a nod from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and other bands who have had lesser artistic or commercial success get in there, it does really tick you off.”

• Why Is STYX Not In The Hall Of Fame?

  Despite the band’s resume, hit songs, and million-selling albums, Styx has never been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2014, cofounder and former singer Dennis DeYoung opined that Styx was simply not the type of group the Hall looked upon with favor. Change.org even has had online petition to demonstrate to the Hall that fans of Styx want to see them receive this recognition.
  

• Why Isn't Boston In The Hall Of Fame?

  Their first album,  “Boston,” sold more than 17 million copies, and remains one of the biggest debut albums of all time. Three of their other albums, including a greatest hits album, went multi-platinum, two of them hitting #1 on the album charts in the process, and they had a platinum studio album as late as the 1990’s. Considering their singles, they hit #1 with “Amanda,” the lead single from their third studio album, and also hit the top 10 with “More Than A Feeling,” “Don’t Look Back,” and “Get Ready.” They had further top 40 hits that have had solid catalog value with “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Peace Of Mind,” “A Man I’ll Never Be,” Rumor suggests that  Boston will never be inducted because of Tom Scholz beating CBS Records in their breach of contract suit against him.

• Why Isn't The Band Kansas In The Hall Of Fame?

   It is puzzling that Kansas has not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame given their larger cultural influence and the enduring nature of their music. They were a bands band and so very good at it . Live shows are incredible to watch. 

  Coinciding with the celebration of their 40th anniversary in 2015, KANSAS was inducted into both the Kansas Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame as recognition for their achievements from both their native state and adopted home state. But no Rock Hall of Fame (Yet).
