Oscar Mayer ‘Wienermobile’ To Make Stops In Detroit And West Michigan
As you drive around in the next few days, you might come across the Wienermobile. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, that is. It is making stops throughout Michigan this week, including Metro Detroit and West Michigan. The drivers of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, known as Hammy Sammy and Sammer Sausage, shared with 7 Action News that the Wienermobile will be in metro Detroit from March 19 through March 24.
The 27-foot-long vehicle will also be stopping in West Michigan this week. Find the Wienermobile at the D&W Fresh Market on Apple Orchard Lane on Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at the Forest Hills Foods on Cascade Road SE on Saturday, March 23, also from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Previously called the Frankmobile, the Wienermobile recently visited West Michigan back in August, making stops in Dorr, Allendale, Holland, and Caledonia.
During its time in Michigan, the hot dog-shaped car will distribute Wiener Whistles, bacon coupons, and other memorabilia. Visitors may also have the opportunity to take a tour inside the Wienermobile and take pictures of it.
For the most up-to-date schedule, you can check out the “WhereMyDogs” website.
About The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile
According to Oscar Mayer, the idea of a 13-foot metal hot dog on wheels for transporting the company’s spokesperson came from Carl Mayer, the nephew of the company’s founder. The first Wienermobile, designed by the General Body Company of Chicago, Illinois, in 1936, featured open cockpits in the center and rear and was often seen on the streets of Chicago promoting Oscar Mayer’s “German-style Wieners.”
In 1988, six new 23-foot-long fiberglass Wienermobiles toured the country, equipped with microwave ovens, refrigerators, cellular phones, and stereo systems playing 21 versions of the Oscar Mayer Wiener Jingle. Additionally, four more Wienermobiles were originally built for touring Japan and Spain.
Travel + Leisure reported that more people have been to space than have ever driven the iconic vehicle. According to the travel website, the opportunity to be a Hotdogger is competitive, but landing a job comes with a range of perks. These include covered travel expenses for the year, apparel, vacation time during major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the ability to select your own hotel in the cities you visit. They added that Hotdoggers typically get two days off each week, and they also have time to explore the various stops they visit.
