Remember Boblo Island? It Looks A Little Different These Days
So many of us remember growing up here in Metro Detroit and heading to Boblo Island for a day of fun. Fast forward to today and Boblo Island looks much different than it did in those days.
It has been nearly 30 years since the island’s amusement park has been closed. The lasting memories can still be seen scattered around the island, but other than that Boblo has taken on a much different look these days. Boblo island even goes by a new name now ever since it was bought. Amico Infrastructures now owns the island, and has marketed it as Bois Blanc, Canada.
The island is now a private residential island with 140 homes on it and plans to build another 200 plus. Don’t worry though, Amico Infrastructures understand the historical impact the island has had on so many and plan to restore some of the original amusement park building.
For example, what was once home to the largest dance floor in the country, the dance hall will be fully restored to it’s original glory. The company also plans to restore the movie theatre and a few of the washrooms.
Right now, most of the homes and condos stand on the north side of the island, but future plans have development happening on all sides. There will also be an expansion of the islands marina, adding a restaurant that anyone will be able to dine at.
Channel 4 headed to the island to get a better look at what it has become.

KEEPING THE HISTORY:
When it comes down to it, I think the Canada based development company has done a great job at keeping some of the memories the island has provided.
