The Historic Howell Theater has been around since 1928

This is not the first time we have heard of something like this happening, we will get to that but right now lets get down to the newest elephant story in Michigan!

Is there really a elephant buried in an ally in Downtown Howell, Michigan? For years this has been a story people from Howell share, and as a resident of the great city I can say I have heard it a few times myself.

The story goes, back in the 1920's a circus came through downtown Howell, during that trip one of the circus's elephants died. The story continues, as they knew they couldn't get the elephant out of town, they decided to bury it in an ally that is now behind the Aberrant Ales brewery.

Clark Gill opened up the brewery in 2017 and heard of the tale from a few locals. After hearing to stories, Clark and his wife headed to the library to see if they could find any evidence. Unfortunately they came up with nothing, but the story still lives on, through the town and the brewery.

Just a few days ago, Clark teamed up with a couple local companies and had the ally paved. During the process of paving, they even dug down a little further than needed just to see what they could find. Again, they came up empty.

Here is the full story, they have even named the Ally! Click HERE

Honestly, as a member of Howell I don't think this story needs to be true. The Brewery has a themed beer about the elephant and schools even take field trips back there to see it.

If you are out in the area, check it out! Paving the ally will allow for some very cool events in the future. I can't wait to see!

We spoke with Clark Wednesday morning:

ANOTHER BURIED ELEPHANT

Remember this one?

Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
