Bob Seger Breaks Retirement
Bob Seger breaks retirement. Doesn’t that bring a smile to your face? It’s been over four years since Bob was on stage – but last Sunday he appeared at the Country Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to honor (and surprise) his friend Patty Loveless. Bob got on stage and did “She Drew A Broken Heart” to a roaring response from the crowd.
If you’re wondering about the connection between the two – Patty appeared on Bob’s “Face The Promise” album back in 2006 – doing a duet with Seger on “The Answer’s In The Question”. Bob looked so happy on stage (can’t we get just ONE more show at Pine Knob?)
Bob Seger breaks retirement and looked great. But what’s next? You never know. It’s always interesting to see who Bob’s worked with over the years – and his influences reaches far and wide. Ever hear the story of Bob influencing one of Don Henley’s biggest hits?
It’s an amazing story from producer Niko Bolas. You’ll also discover that the song (at least the music) was created by Tom Petty’s guitar player for Tom…like we said, it’s an amazing story.
What happened with boys of summer? Well, boys of summer was written by Mike Campbell for Tom Petty. And Tom didn’t want to do the song or didn’t hear it. Don did. He wrote amazing lyrics. Mike had the whole thing programmed in what was then new, this Lynn 9000, and played all the guitars. And we cut it, we mixed it, cut a single, 7in, came back to the studio, it was a Friday night, and we were playing it back and everything’s cool. And Bob Seger stopped by to visit Don. And he comes in the control room And everybody’s having drinks and celebrating. The record’s almost over. And Bob looked at Don and he said “that’s a great record…why don’t you…” (watch the video above for the rest – very cool story).
