Today December 11th is apparently National break-up day. Honestly, It makes a ton of sense. Breaking up with someone right before the holidays is a smart move. It allows you to save some money by not buying them a gift. It also allows you to skip out on having to go to their families out. Let's take a deeper look into why December 11th is the perfect date to break up with someone, and I have a story pretty on point for this article.

We are 2 weeks from Christmas, which mean according to a lot of people, it's the best time to break up with your current partner. Like I said in the intro, it makes a lot of sense, it saves you a lot of money and time.

This all started in 2008, after a study about Facebook relationship statuses was done. It showed that a lot of people went from being in a relationship to being single on December 11th. Another strong number was the amount of people who broke up with someone on a Monday. So it being the 11th and a Monday, we are bound to see a ton of people getting dumped today.

Experts have a few different theories on why this is such a common date for breaking up. Someone could be worried about their partner meeting their family. Others just simply don't want to buy the other person a gift, or the stresses of the Holidays brings it out of them.

Here is an interesting grid on peak break up times:

MY STORY:

I can tell you first hand, I have experienced this. I also need to go back and look because I feel like it was right around the 11th when I got dumped. Let's get into the story and relive this moment. I can now say it was for the better, I have a great family and love my life, but at the time it was heartbreaking. Here we go. I was dating this great girl senior year of High School, before I went to play baseball in college I decided to end things. Honestly, I thought as an athlete in college I would clean up. So we went our separate ways but then about a month before Christmas we got back together. What a mistake that was. Here is why, 2 weeks before Christmas she told me she wanted to exchange gifts because she didn't want to wait until Christmas time. I said no problem, not realizing, I think she just wanted to get a gift from me before breaking up. I got her this really nice Coach ring and boom, a week later she broke up with me.

So, what did I do? I made her drop the ring off at my moms house while I was at college. I returned it got my money back and we never really spoke after that.. Anyway, if you are getting weird vibes from your partner this week, just know, you are in the breakup window.

Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
