Mr Chimetime Ranks Detroit Style Pizza
Mr Chimetime ranks Detroit style pizza. Why is this important? Because he’s one of the biggest names on social media for his brutally honest food reviews…and he’s here in Detroit!
Detroit Style Pizza…What Is It?
You can trace the history of it back to one person, Gus Guerra. Back in 1946 at a neighborhood bar called Buddy’s Rendezvous, Gus decided he needed something new for the menu. He asked his wife Anna for help with a pizza, and she borrowed a dough recipe from her Sicilian mother. The blue steel pan (according to legend) was provided to Gus by a friend at a factory that used the pans for spare parts.
Reviewing Detroit Style Pizza
Everyone in Detroit has an opinion when it’s comes to what they like about their Detroit Style Pizza. Perfect crisp of the outer cheese crust? Maybe you like a sweeter sauce and the mix of brick cheese. What makes a perfect pizza here in the Motor City? That’s up to you. And that’s what makes the review of Mr. Chimetime so interesting. Here’s a guy from North Carolina spending lots of quality time in Detroit and giving a brutally honest review of our favorite pizza. This is a guy who knows food from around the world (reviewing it in the front seat of his car), and the thought that goes into these isn’t lost on us.
So here’s his review:
Do you agree with Mr Chimetime?
He’s already getting A LOT of feedback from people around Detroit for this review (good and bad) – but you’ll notice he encourages you to go try each place (even if it’s not his favorite). I like that he gives an “outsiders” perspective on Detroit’s beloved pizza creation. I’ve got friends all over the country that have Detroit style pizza places in their city (it’s currently HUGE in Los Angeles) – but to take the time to hit Detroit and put in the work to review these pizzas. I respect the hell out of that. Mr Chimetime has these followers for a reason. He’s real.
And now I’m contemplating a discussion last year about Detroit Style Pizza – is it deep dish?
