Alright, I have seen and heard of many dumb dating trends over the years, but this one takes the cake. The fact that you have to call this a "Dating Term" blows me away. It must be because it seems like a normal concept. Let's get into it, and I will share more of my thoughts.

There is a new "dating trend" sweeping TikTok right now. The fact that people are calling this guy a genius gives me very little faith in the future of the planet. Yes, I am taking it that far. This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. Do you know why? It already exists; it's called being on a regular date!

This guy's new dating trend is called "Bottle Night," and it is sweeping the internet as a ground-breaking new way to go on dates. It's very simple: Basically, you stay home, put down your phones, and both grab a bottle of wine. Instead of being on your phone, you drink wine and talk all night. What a wild concept!

He said, quote, "We lock our phones away, turn the TV off . . . [we] each grab a bottle of wine, and talk. That's it; we talk and enjoy each other's presence. We live together, but it's easy to miss out on 'quality time.'"

Honestly, it's hilarious to me that people are praising this guy for his idea. My wife and I do this on most weekend nights. We grab a bottle or two of wine, go sit on the deck, and enjoy each other's company. It's truly sad that in the year 2024, this is considered an amazing dating idea. Again, this is something people have been doing for years.

ANOTHER THOUGHT:

I have another take on this: I am trying not to be the grumpy older man. Maybe this is a good thing. I notice when hanging out with my nieces and nephews that they go to the basement and all sit on their phones when we get together. So, maybe younger people need to make this feel like they are doing something unheard of before. I am not trying to be the grumpy older man when talking about this, but come on! It isn't anything new; I frankly can't believe this guy is being praised for something so ordinary.

Here is the guy's original post: someone made an excellent point. How did he write the post and take a photo without his phone?

Although I think I got my feelings on this right, I tend to screw up a lot in my marriage, so here are some past Grounds for Divorce for you to check out!

Grounds for Divorce
Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
