Grandparents and Halloween Candy for My Son
Today’s Grounds for Divorce (10/31) is all about Halloween. I asked a pretty simple question and of course the listeners made sure to tell me their thoughts. Let’s get into the first Grounds for Divorce of the week.
So, today is Halloween and my son Finnian who is 18 months will actually kind of know what is going on. So I had a simple question, at least I thought. It is related to the grandparents and candy. Here is how I asked the question on air.
GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE 10/31
DO WE LET GRANDMA GIVING FINN CANDY TONIGHT SLIDE? OR DO WE SHUT THAT DOWN
Now, before I get to the video and listener comments, let me be clear. My son will get candy tonight, I would never deny him of enjoying the night. I also don’t want him bouncing off the walls and not sleeping all night. That is why I wanted to get your opinion on this and see what you did with young children.
Here is the conversation from on air this morning.

There were a ton of great calls and suggestions from there, now let’s see what other people had to say.
LISTENER COMMENTS:
I’m a grandma  and I would definitely advise u not to pick a battle with grandma, perhaps gummies or like the fruit gummies, pick age appropriate
Yes…just not that old lady hard candy out of their purse  my mom did that…and my son threw up all over …he was fine…regrouped and off we went!
This shouldn’t even be a thought in anyone’s mind. Don’t ruin 1 night for Grandparents & Finn! Don’t let him OD on candy, but let them have fun.
Absolutely. A sweet memory of Grandma theyâll have forever.
He needs to eat a good dinner first. A few pieces of candy that an adult looks over. Or from a known neighbor. Then a few pieces at home as you sort through your bag.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
As always, thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions. I know for sure that my wife and I will allow Finn to have some candy, I know my wife will also shut it down when she wants to. So for now, I am going to stay out of the way and let them figure it out.
