Save Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum!
This story takes me back to being a kid and running through Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum with my brother. We would play on all of the old games, get our fortune told and see how long we could hold our hand in the cage before the scary dog came jumping out at you! Unfortunately, we could see this amazing landmark and Metro Detroit staple go away if we don’t come together and help save it.
Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum has been apart of Farmington since the 1980’s. A new petition that will be in front of the city this evening could change that. There is a petition that would have the museum demolished, to make room for new businesses.
THE PLAN
The company that owns the building is called RPT Realty, their new proposed plan would see Marvin’s get demolished and a complete rezoning of the lot. If you never been to Marvin’s than it may be hard to grasp just how special this place has been to people. It’s unlike anything else we have here in Metro Detroit. Wall to wall is nothing but games, from old to new.
The former owner Marvin Yagoda started the museum back in the 80s and was known for his out of this world personality, unfortunately he passed away in 2017. After that, the duties to keep Marvin’s going was on the shoulders of Andrew Rosenfeld who has been the manager at Marvin’s for 16 years. “Honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do with myself,” Rosenfeld said if the place were to close.
The plan is for the building to be demolished to make way for a new Meijer, as a tenet of the building Marvin’s has nothing they can do about it. The only thing that could make this stop is us and the city board of Farmington.
“Could we move somewhere else? Technically, yes. There’s other places to move into. We could pack everything up, we could probably move everything, we could make it work. But would it be the same? I agree with Andrew, without Marvin’s being in that building, it just wouldn’t be the same.
TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE:
This is a change dot org petition out right now that you can sign to help save to the building and save Marvin’s. Link is below.

If growing up in Michigan has taught me one thing, it’s that we like our history. Marvin’s is apart of that history and we would love to keep it around.
