Family First, Ryan Adds Another Member
Hey Everybody! It has been a minute since my last post, but it’s for good reason, I promise! I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to introduce the newest member of the Logan family and share my thoughts on what has changed since having a second child.
First, say hello to the newest member of the Logan family, Deklyn Sheila Meyers, born on March 24th, 2024. She was born at 8:01 pm, weighing 7 pounds and just under 20 inches long. I cannot say thank you enough to the staff at St. Joes Ann Arbor, the birthing center and recovery staff were everything we could have asked for. Just like with my first child Finn, the staff cared for my wife and me, even in stressful moments. For anyone considering having children, I would highly recommend checking out St. Joe’s in Ann Arbor.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE BIRTH:
Next, it was not your average delivery; I will never understand how strong my wife is. I would have been a complete baby and complained the whole time. All my wife did was tell me “calm down, it’s all going to be alright”. As we got closer to delivery, things started to change. Sparing you the details, my wife ended up having an emergency C-Section. Again, as I am getting more worried, she is as calm as a person could be. Thankfully, the fantastic doctors acted fast, and Deklyn came into our family just minutes later.
WHY THE NAME?
Since announcing my daughter’s name, I have had a few people reach out and wonder why we gave her the name we did. From what I have heard and seen, a lot of people love the name we gave her. Here is why we named her what we did. I come from an Irish family, and I am very proud of that. I love Irish names and have always wanted my kids to have Irish names.
When we had our son, we named him Finnian because it is a firm Irish name, and no one has named Finnian in the United States for a long time. Now, why Deklyn?
When planning to add to the family, my wife and I always loved that name and decided no matter what we had next, Deklyn would be the name. We spelled it as we did so it would look different than the male Declan. We wanted to honor my late great Mother-In-Law; that is where the middle name comes from. Again, we are so happy with the name and excited to come up with some great nicknames!
We talked about the name before having her:
FAMILY OF FOUR:
Honestly, I feel like I am a parent now. I in no way mean to knock people who only have one child; sometimes, that is just how things work out. I am just saying for myself: I really wanted at least two kids and knew that would really make me feel like a parent. Also, the difference between these two kids as newborns is wild. My son was not a great sleeper and had trouble with his stomach.
This little girl is a little piggy and, so far, is sleeping like an angel. I know that will probably change, but for right now, we will take it! Honestly, though, having our little girl has just reinforced the choices I have made to get where I am today. I love my wife, I love my kids, and I love my life! That includes being able to talk with you all every morning. I do not take what I get to do every day for granted.
Again, thank you, everyone, for reaching out, checking on my wife, and giving us some positive vibes! Here are some helpful tips if you are getting ready to add to your family.
