Plymouth Ice Festival! City of the Week is out for Kite Flying Day with the mayor, Oliver Wolcott!

City of the Week checks in at Kites and Fun Things for a chat with Marieanne. Marieanne and her husband, Jon, have owned Kites and Fun Things for more than 30 years. Their selection ranges from kids’ kites to double and quadruple line kites for the experienced flyer.

Downtown Development! City of the Week meets up with Tony Bruscato, DDA Director for a chat on what to expect at this year’s Plymouth Ice Festival. Ice sculptures, games, and you could win $50 in gift cards! Things move inside to Alpine Chocolat Haus to taste test their hot chocolate!

How ice sculptures get made! City of the Week gets a firsthand look at the process with artist, Tajana… it’s mesmerizing!

A look in the finished cooler! Get a sneak peak at some of Tajana’s finished pieces that will be featured at the Plymouth Ice Festival!

  The Plymouth Railroad! The railroad first came to Plymouth in 1871. This display was donated by CSX, the current owner of the Plymouth Railroad.

  Compari’s On the Park! City of the Week met up with Patty and Sandy of Compari’s.. family owned and run since 2000. Amazing food and hospitality! Also pictured, one of our new favorite people, Tony Bruscato, Plymouth’s Director of the Downtown Development Authority. Tony rocks!

  Alpine Chocolat Haus! Look how amazing their candied apples are! They also have excellent hot chocolate. Tell Sharon we said, “Hi!” when you stop in!

  Tony Bruscato made some calls and got us access to where more than half of the 80 ice sculptures are being created for Plymouth’s Ice Festival this weekend (February 12-14)!

  The artist is Tajana Raukar and she is amazing. Tajana and her husband, Paul own Ice Dreams Sculptures in Plymouth.

  Tajana shows Doni how it’s done! Tajana has been sculpting ice for 25 years. She has even competed in the cultural Winter Olympics and competitions around the world!

  Tajana’s work environment is a balmy 14 degrees. She begins all her pieces with a chainsaw before moving on to more refined tools for detailing.

  Tajana and FEW of her medals! She has another 50-60 that are framed on the walls of their workshop.

  Tajana’s finished pieces... the sculptures basically get washed after completion to give them a glass-like sheen.

  Tajana’s works of art will be displayed throughout Plymouth in front of different businesses for this year’s Plymouth Ice Festival. Kellogg Park will NOT have displays to help maintain social distancing.

  The USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth has been the home to many rising NHL stars. The likes include Stanley Cup Champions Tom Wilson (Washington Capitols ‘18), Tyler Seguin (Boston Bruins ‘11) and one day Detroit Red Wings own Captain Dylan Larkin.

  The sardine room in downtown Plymouth has more on their menu besides sardines. If you’re looking for good spirits and oysters Rockefeller, they have you covered.

  The Penn theatre in downtown Plymouth has been entertaining movie goers since 1941. That’s about as old as Dave Dahmer’s underpants.
