4 Super Weird Food People Eat That Aren’t Mermaids
The 24th Annual Testicle Festival recently took place in Deerfield, Michigan. There’s a lot to unpack there. What is a super weird food in your mind? Take a look at the cuisine that you can have a chance to taste… or give a strong pass. Mermaids are not on this menu.
Deep Fried Cattle and Bull Testicles
No wonder they call them Rocky Mountain Oysters. This needs a name different from the one above. The Deerfield Testicle Festival offers “deep-fried cattle and bull testicles.” Click on Detroit has a guide for the event. Here’s an instructional video for cooking the testicles. Hat tip for using Cocktail sauce for dipping.
Fried Tarantulas
Another super weird food comes from Cambodia where fried tarantulas are a yummy snack. They’re popular enough that they are sold by street vendors. Instead of a soft pretzel or a hot dog, you can sang a fried tarantula. Nationalfood.org has a list of 100 bizarre foods if you really want to go down this rabbit hole.

Surströmming
This Swedish food is used in challenges and pranks. The word “Surströmming” translates from Swedish as “Sour herring.” Surströmming is made from fermented Baltic Sea herring. The aroma is not to be understated. Stink. Stank. Stunk. Some have classified this as the most disgusting food in the world. Congrats!
Kopi Luwak
Do you watch Reacher? In the latest season, there are several scenes that reference the fancy gourmet coffee made from cat poop… Well this may be it. In Indonesia, Kopi Kuwak is coffee made from partially digested coffee berries. How do you get the partially digested coffee beans? Easy! You pick up all of the feces of Asian palm civets you can find. Now that is a super weird food.
