LEGO Day – Be a Block Star
The immense creativity of LEGOs and their builders is mind-blowing. January 28th is International Lego Day. Let’s celebrate LEGOs and their history with our resident LEGO expert, Joel Morgan.
A Brief History of LEGOs and LEGO Day
According to LEGO.com, LEGO is actually an abbreviation. It comes from two Danish words: “leg godt.” The phrase means “play well.” The company was found by Ole Kirk Kristiansen back in 1932 and his family still owns the company today.
LEGOs were originally made of wood. The LEGOs as we know them today began production in 1958. January 28th is the day in 1958 that the patent for LEGO bricks was filed.
LEGOs have been named “Toy of the Century” twice.
WCSX LEGO Block Star: Joel Morgan
Joel Morgan has been with WCSX for a lot of years with City of the Week and Rockin’ Roadtrips. Now Joel is on official DJ and has his own show on WCSX Sundays from 3-7pm. Joel has been a LEGO creator since his first LEGO Fire Station set.
Joel loves creating LEGO figures… mostly (but not all) animals that Joel likes. He starts with the face and works out from there. Some of Joel’s creations for 4 feet tall! Joel even won an award at the 2019 Novi Brickfest! A few years back, we interviewed Joel about his LEGO builds.

Joel’s LEGO Day Suggestion
Tuesday Jan. 28th is International Lego Day. I will be displaying some of my Lego MOCs (that’s Lego lingo for “My Own Creation”) at Bricks and Minifigs in Novi. It’s a fun, free Lego event. Many Lego expert builders and fans will be there to interact with who can answer your Lego questions and can offer advise how you can make your own Lego masterpiece!

Happy International LEGO Day and remember… don’t LEGO your dreams! (rim shot)
